Even though the car is insured and owned by the rental company, you\u2019re responsible for keeping it in good condition during the rental period. A responsible attitude not only ensures you have an enjoyable experience, but also protects you from unexpected costs when returning the car.<\/p><p data-start=\"402\" data-end=\"570\">In this article, we\u2019ll share the most important rules and recommendations for properly maintaining a rental car, whether you\u2019re using it for a day or for several weeks.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"577\" data-end=\"616\">1. Refuel with the correct fuel type<\/h2><p data-start=\"618\" data-end=\"860\">The first step is to carefully check which type of fuel the car needs. This information is stated in the contract, and usually also on the fuel cap. Using the wrong fuel can seriously damage the engine, and in this case you\u2019ll be held liable.<\/p><p data-start=\"862\" data-end=\"1048\">Also, if the rental company\u2019s policy is \u201cfull-to-full\u201d (meaning you receive the car with a full tank and must return it full), make sure to respect this condition to avoid extra charges.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1094\">2. Drive defensively and responsibly<\/h2><p data-start=\"1096\" data-end=\"1162\">Even if the car isn\u2019t yours, it\u2019s important to drive it carefully:<\/p><ul><li data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1208\">avoid sudden acceleration or harsh braking<\/li><li data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1208\">don\u2019t drive over curbs or onto unpaved roads unnecessarily<\/li><li data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1208\">don\u2019t drive aggressively or sportily<\/li><li data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1208\">don\u2019t overload the car, especially if it\u2019s a small one and you have heavy luggage<\/li><li data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1208\">A calm driving style not only protects the car but also helps you avoid fines or accidents.<\/li><\/ul><h2 data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1543\">3. Return the car clean, just as you received it<\/h2><p data-start=\"1545\" data-end=\"1687\">When you pick up the car, it\u2019s provided clean both inside and out \u2013 washed, vacuumed, and ready to go. Please return it in the same condition.<\/p><p data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"1888\">If the car becomes excessively dirty (mud, dust, food leftovers, sand, etc.), it\u2019s your responsibility to clean it. Otherwise, we\u2019ll have to charge a fee to restore the car to its original condition.<\/p><p data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"2011\">Respecting this helps maintain a high-quality service and ensures the car can be delivered promptly to the next customer.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"2018\" data-end=\"2063\">4. Pay attention to any dashboard warnings<\/h2><p data-start=\"2065\" data-end=\"2299\">If warning lights appear on the dashboard or you hear unusual noises during your rental, stop immediately and contact the rental company. Don\u2019t ignore these signals \u2013 a small issue can become a costly problem if not addressed in time.<\/p><p data-start=\"2301\" data-end=\"2474\">Generally, you\u2019re not allowed to repair the car on your own without the company\u2019s approval. They\u2019ll tell you what to do and, if necessary, can provide a replacement vehicle.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"2481\" data-end=\"2506\">5. Park in safe places<\/h2><p data-start=\"2508\" data-end=\"2684\">Protect the rental car as you would your own. Choose safe parking areas, avoid crowded or unsupervised zones, and use the car\u2019s security systems (alarm, central locking, etc.).<\/p><p data-start=\"2686\" data-end=\"2814\">In case of theft or vandalism, you\u2019ll need to file a report and contact both the rental company and the authorities immediately.<\/p><h2 data-start=\"2821\" data-end=\"2859\">6.
